Carabao Cup round up

Three more Carabao Cup matches were played tonight with three Premier League teams in action.

Manchester United returned to Old Trafford with the return of their old foe Vincent Kompany, but this time in the manager’s dugout. Erik ten Hag fielded five returning World Cup stars with two nets on the night; Christian Eriksen scored just his second goal for Red and Marcus Rashford completed a superb solo performance, finishing it off with an outstanding shot. 2-0 was the final score.

Nottingham Forest have struggled to maintain form or win wins since their return to the Premier League, but they did produce four away goals against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Brennan Johnson was on the scoresheet twice, with Jesse Lingard and Taiwo Awoniyi also on goal.

The only major surprise in the Cup round of 16 was Brighton and Hove Albion bowing out on penalties against League One side Charlton. They were without star Alexis Mac Allister as the 23-year-old understandably continues his World Cup celebrations with his teammates from the national team in Buenos Aires.

Then:

Manchester City take on Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow night. The start is at 8 pm.
