Perhaps the most anticipated fight of the year will take place tonight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as Canelo Alvarez defends his undisputed super middleweight world championship against Gennady Golovkin in what will be the third meeting between the two. . Both the first and second Canelo-GGG fights were as impressive as they were controversial (the first fight ended in a draw, while the judges ruled the second for Canelo, prompting touchdown cries for Canelo that have yet to be silenced). . The 12-round main event scheduled for tonight will be streamed live on DAZN Pay Per View, along with a pretty interesting card.
Twenty-two-year-old Texan Jesse Rodriguez impressed a lot of people last June when he knocked out Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in the eighth round of their fight for the WBC super flyweight title. The undefeated 16-0 Rodriguez will defend that title tonight against the 28-4-1 Israel Gonzalez in a scheduled 12-rounder. González last saw action in April when he beat Misail GarcÃa Acevedo for UD. Rodriguez is expected to win this one, but he can never be too sure in this sport.
The popular Gabriel Rosado will also be on tonight’s card when the 26-15-1 warrior takes on the 18-1 Ali Akhmedov in a scheduled 10-round middleweight affair. Rosado last saw action in April when he dropped a majority decision to Shane Mosley Jr. The hard-hitting Akhmedov, who analysts believe should win this one, was last in the ring in December when he knocked out Paul Cuesta in the first assault.
Lastly, undefeated up-and-coming middleweight Austin Williams will face 18-2-1 Kieron Conway in a scheduled 10-round bout. The last time William saw action was in April, when he knocked out Chordale Booker in the first round. Conway was last seen stopping Greogry Trenel in five last month. Williams, who has nine knockouts on his 11-fight resume, is expected to take this one, but the elusive Conway could make it interesting.
