Canelo Alvarez 167.4 Vs. Gennadiy Golovkin 167.8 – Weigh-in Results For Trilogy Fight

By Jim Calfa: Canelo Alvarez weighed in at 167.4 lbs and Gennadiy Golovkin 167.8 lbs for their 12-round headliner live on DAZN pay-per-view this Saturday, September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) looked less cut than he had the last time he fought Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) in 2018. In that fight, Canelo’s physique resembled that of a bodybuilder who was heading to a Mr. Olympia competition. Today, he looked normal in comparison but still muscular.

It will be interesting to see if Canelo runs out after three rounds like he did in his last fight against Dmitry Bivol on May 7. If Canelo fades early against Golovkin, he’ll be asking for trouble.

“They’ve been egged on by the media, and they’ve had so many face-offs, and they want to fight,” Eddie Hearn told Boxing Social of Canelo and Golovkin.

“They are also realizing the pressure that is in this fight. Gennadiy Golovkin, will seek to be indisputable. Canelo Álvarez is coming off a loss. Many people will question him and he will seek to make a statement.

“I think they both physically realize that they are in an absolute war on Saturday night and are preparing for battle. Yesterday he said: ‘I’m sick of the fighting because when I look at him, I want to rip his head off’. I was like, ‘Okay.’

“I haven’t seen him like this before. I think he will want to control his emotions because GGG will want him to fight his emotions. He will want me to be reckless, but I think he will be reckless.

“Honestly, I don’t think he will back down in this fight, nor will Gennadiy Golovkin. That’s why I think you’ll see the best of the three so far,” Hearn said.

“People have been telling me, ‘I think Gennadiy is going to do this,’” Hearn told ID Boxing. “The pressure from Canelo Álvarez coming off a loss.

“That air of invincibility is fading a little bit, but he’s very willing, Canelo, and GGG is as well. They can’t stand each other.”
