A medical emergency from a fan delayed the final between Cádiz and Barcelona in a LaLiga match. Barça was leading the Pirates 2-0 when the game was stopped very late in the game to attend to the fans in the stands.

In the 82nd minute at the Nuevo Mirandilla, the central referee stopped the game with the fans in the north stand causing a scene. As medical personnel scrambled to help the fan, Cádiz goalkeeper Jeremías Ledesma frantically handed over a first-aid kit. This appeared to include a defibrillator for medical workers in the stands.

Initially, the players remained on the field during the stoppage. Both clubs had players and staff members praying during the ordeal. After a long pause, officials made the decision to return the players to their locker rooms. A decision came soon after. Players eventually resurfaced after a total of 50 minutes between games.

During the break, Gemma Soler of ESPN reported that the fan suffered a suspected heart attack during the game. Fortunately, the fan recovered his pulse, according to the president of Cádiz, Manuel Vizcaíno. Early reports show that the ventilator took about 15 minutes to stabilize. After that, emergency workers transported the ventilator to a nearby hospital.

During the chaotic scene, a second, less worrying incident occurred. According to ESPN’s Soler, a cameraman also fainted. However, this worker did not need to go to the hospital and should be medically well.

Fans in the North Stand of the first emergency were instructed to leave the stadium. Medics didn’t want too much commotion around them as they helped the fan who appeared to be having a heart attack. In addition to the departure of the entire section, many other fans made the decision to leave the area.

At the time, Barcelona was leading the hosts, 2-0. When play resumed, Barcelona added two more goals in the last six minutes. The 4-0 scoreline featured goals from Frenkie de Jong, Robert Lewandowski, Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele.
