Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaq Barrett suffered a torn Achilles tendon in last night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Barrett will be out for at least 7-9 months and will be out for the season.

Barrett has been one of the best pass rushers in recent years. He received a massive extension with the Buccaneers because of his performance.

He began his career with the Denver Broncos and never quite found his place in Denver. Barrett was more of that younger guy who rotated with Broncos veterans like Von Miller. Barrett never got his chance to shine.

He was a rookie on the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2015. He was a contributor to a degree. Barrett started all 16 games and had 5.5 sacks as a rookie.

Barrett signed a one-year trial contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He proved to be fine. In his first year with the Buccaneers he had a career year. He posted a league-leading 19.5 sacks. That year, Barrett was fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting, a second-team NFL All-Pro, and made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.

Barrett returned to earth in the following two years. She had 10 sacks in 2020 and 8 sacks in 2021.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will greatly miss him as one of their best pass-rushers. With the team already having a struggling offense, losing Barrett is a huge blow to moving this team forward.

Tampa Bay’s secondary was already banged up before last night’s game. The Bucs’ run defense has been lackluster the past two weeks and losing Barrett isn’t going to make it any easier.

However, the Buccaneers can still win the division due to every other NFC South team being under .500. There’s a chance this Bucs team could win a division title.
