Liverpool were publicly fighting for a last-minute midfield deal on transfer deadline day, and one of the most closely linked names was Moises Caicedo.
Now it seems that Brighton could have reached an agreement with us, before a possible transfer of the Ecuadorian.
As reported by The Express: ‘Brighton have ‘promised’ Liverpool that any offer from the Reds for midfielder Moises Caicedo will be prioritised, according to reports. The Seagulls turned down several offers for the Ecuadorian star during the summer transfer window, telling clubs they would have to wait until after the World Cup to seek a deal.

Liverpool, who were desperate to sign a midfielder before Thursday’s deadline, apparently made a second offer to Brighton in the closing hours of the window.
“However, the South Coast team told all interested parties that they would have to put their offers on hold until after the winter World Cup. Liverpool have apparently been told their interest will be prioritised.
“That is according to Ecuadorian publication Tera Deportes, who claim that Jurgen Klopp’s need for a midfielder led him to bid for Caicedo as the clock ticked to the 11pm deadline last Thursday.”
It seems possible that we can now agree a deal for the 20-year-old, possibly even this winter, if we are still looking for a midfielder by then.
We can only hope that our injury problems have subsided by then and that our need for more reinforcements has lessened, but this report suggests that we might be happy to move if need be.
The former Beerschot borrower is still untested in the Premier League so this space in time may also give us more opportunities to see if he will be the right fit for us.
It’s going to be a strange few months around the World Cup in Qatar and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping we’ll be in better shape come the end of the competition.
However, if this is a deal we need to complete, it looks like we are the team that will be given priority.
