Brendan Rodgers was sacked as Leicester City manager on Sunday afternoon, leaving the Foxes in the Premier League relegation zone.
This season has been a disaster for Leicester, especially since the World Cup break, and the relegation threat is real. The Foxes’ hierarchy was clearly concerned about this possibility, and despite not backing Rodgers with signings at the start of the season, the club felt a change was necessary.
Following this result, pundit Stan Collymore believes Rodgers’ hopes of managing one of the Premier League’s Big Six clubs are over for now.
Writing in his exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Collymore said: “Fans will like what they see because Brendan has a proactive style of play and develops players, but when Leicester were unable to spend money due to Covid, that’s when they should. He’s been in his prime and I don’t think he’s done that. His team was being labeled pompous and flat, which is why Brendan’s days in the top four are probably over unless he gets a club back there. A club that can pay him the money first, and one that is in the bottom half and wants to get back to the top half, with its sights set on a European cry.”

Collymore says he thinks Rodgers will take a break for a while and then mentioned some clubs that might be interested in the former Liverpool manager.
The pundit said: “You can make the case that Brendan could be seen as the Chelsea man because he was there in the Mourinho years, but you don’t get sacked from Leicester and go to Chelsea. I don’t think for a minute they’ll take it, they’ll be looking for a bigger name. Palace could have hired him if he’d been given his marching orders sooner, but I think he’s taking a sabbatical now. Come summer, if De Zerbi leaves, there’s a chance the Brighton position will open up or maybe Leeds, Brentford.”
