Over the course of rounds 2-4, Keyshawn Davis routinely led Omar Tienda to some hard, clean shots. The 23-year-old lightweight prospect was able to showcase his poise and boxing arsenal. Once Davis established the proper range, he used his jab, touched the body and landed some sharp combinations. Davis was in a good rhythm as his right hand landed early and often.

In the fifth round, Omar Tienda got sloppy when he threw a lazy jab, and Davis took advantage of Tienda’s sloppy offense by going over the jab and landing a hard counter right that dropped Tienda. Tienda was able to get up, but as the fight continued, Davis attacked Tienda in the center of the ring and hit him with a combination that dropped Tienda against the ropes. As his opponent was pinned against the ropes, Davis unleashed a flurry of punches that forced the referee to step in and stop the contest.

The Norfolk, Virginia native put on a very impressive performance as he improved his record to (6-0, 5 KOs), while his opponent Omar Tienda dropped to (25-6, 18 KOs). During his post-fight press conference, Davis spoke about overcoming the health issues that kept him out of the ring.

“Honestly, it felt like a dream come true. I couldn’t believe I got the opportunity to perform on this scale again. Being that I was out with health issues, I didn’t know what to expect of myself, but I always said that since I turned pro, God got me, and he definitely had me tonight.”

When asked about his ending, Davis credited two people. “Being around Terence Crawford and learning from Terence Crawford every day in the gym, facing him day in and day out, but tonight I give Bomac the credit. Bomac said that man come to you. I set him up and hit him with a shot, and that’s exactly what I did. I let him walk right into that right hand, next thing you know he’s on the ground.”

Keyshawn Davis is an elite lightweight prospect, but he plans to change his status immediately. His goal for 2023 is to fight quality opponents who will help him crack the top ten and elevate his status from prospect to contender.
