Bobby Firmino has enjoyed an unexpected resurgence for Anfield this season and his tally of eight goals and four assists in 19 games this season so far has impressed a lot of people.
Due to this brilliant form, our number 9 was expected to be selected for the World Cup, but Ian Doyle has ruled out this possibility.
On his Twitter account, the Liverpool Echo reporter wrote: ‘#LFC striker Roberto Firmino has been left out of Brazil’s World Cup squad.

‘Alisson Becker and Fabinho have been included. It means that #LFC will have at most one attacking player, Uruguay’s Darwin Núñez, in the competition.’
This upgrade will come as a huge blow to the Brazilian as it is likely to be the last chance he will have to represent his nation in the competition and thus may spell the end of his career on the international stage.
This is probably news the 31-year-old would have expected at the start of the season, but given his improved form and selection in the latest set of international friendlies, there would have been some hope he could make the cut.
However, when this news is viewed through red-tinted glasses, it can easily be seen as a positive because we now have another forward player who will receive an extended break in the middle of the campaign.
With Jurgen Klopp’s side looking to be putting together a run of positive results at a good time, let’s hope this continues against Derby and Southampton and then we can rest a host of players for the return of our football at the end of December.
The personal loss for many players will be hard to bear, but hopefully the positives that come out of this will be seen in a redshirt.
