Manchester United have been hit hard in their search for the highly talented midfielder Enzo Fernández.
In recent days, Fernandez has been widely touted as a legitimate target for the Red Devils with Erik ten Hag keen to bolster his options in the middle of the park.
It was previously reported that the only way United could get Fernández out of Benfica’s hands would be by paying his astronomical buyout clause.
Another report indicated that Spanish giants Real Madrid were prepared to offer up to 70 million euros to beat United and other interested parties such as Liverpool in the race for the midfielder.
However, it now appears that the fight for the Argentine could come to a quick end.
Argentine outlet Dario La Capital reports that Liverpool have a main agreement to sign the Argentine international in June 2023 from Benfica.
The outlet reveals that “Liverpool accelerated the efforts to incorporate Enzo Fernández and has already signed a pre-agreement with Benfica, the Portuguese club that has the federative rights to the young midfielder of the Argentine team.”
The English club anticipated in this way two other greats of the Premier League, Manchester United and Manchester City, institutions that also planned to add the former River and Defense and Justice from June 2023.
DarÃo La Capital adds that the 21-year-old’s heroics in the World Cup more than convinced them to bring him to Anfield.
Fernández was named in the Argentina squad and had to settle for a place on the bench early on.
