Big blow for Erik ten Hag as Yann Sommer heading for Bayern Munich move – Man United News And Transfer News

Erik ten Hag has arrived at Manchester United like a duck to water and is on track to achieve all the goals he had set for his first season in charge.

It all started with the summer transfer window, in which he skillfully plugged the holes in the team and at the same time added quality to it.

A position that must be resolved according to the Dutchman is that of goalkeeper. David de Gea has drastically improved since his first horror shows.

But long-term concerns remain due to his weakness with the ball at his feet and his reluctance to step off his line.

United are said to be open to offering the Spaniard a contract extension, but are also looking for a replacement.

Many names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, including Atlético Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa and Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Yann Sommer was another name who was open to moving in the summer according to previous reports. It would also have been a cheap purchase due to his contract situation.

But as revealed by Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper has verbally agreed to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

“Verbal agreement with Bayern on a winter transfer! He ONLY wants to join Bayern. Salihamidzic wants him because Monaco won’t let go of Nübel. He can sign a contract until 2025 confirmed,” the journalist tweeted.

According to Kicker, Bayern have yet to decide the length of Sommer’s stay. It could be a one-month loan or a long-term deal, but a lot hinges on Manuel Neuer’s return from injury.

summer to bavaria

“His contract at Mönchengladbach still lasts six months, so the summer would be affordable. It would also be necessary to clarify if he would only come for half a year or sign for the long term.

“Above every decision is the question of the return of Neuer, whose severely broken leg currently does not allow a prognosis based on the information from the kicker,” the report added.

If the Swiss goalkeeper makes a long-term move to the Bavarian giants, it will be a huge blow for Ten Hag, as he will lose a relatively cheap but experienced goalkeeper.
