Besiktas President Insists They Will Part Ways With Wout Weghorst Only If They Find Replacement

Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Cebi has insisted that they will not let Wout Weghorst leave the club unless they agree the terms of his departure and find a replacement for the Dutch international.

Wout Weghorst has been linked with a move away from Besiktas in the January transfer window, with Premier League side Manchester United interested in the Dutch attacker’s services.

Wout Weghorst currently plays for Besiktas on a season-long loan deal from Premier League club Burnley. The Turkish team also has the option of signing him with a permanent contract.

But Manchester United have reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign Wout Weghorst on loan for the rest of the season. According to reports, the Red Devils will pay Besiktas around 3 million euros to end the loan of Wout Weghorst in the Turkish outfit. The Old Trafford side would later sign Wout Weghorst from Burnley.

Besiktas, however, will only sanction the departure of Wout Weghorst if they find a replacement for the Dutch attacker.

They are interested in the services of Cameroonian attacker Vincent Aboubakar to replace Weghorst. Vincent Aboubakar will become a free agent and his contract with Al-Nassr is expected to be terminated.

Speaking to Turkish outlet Milliyet, Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Cebi insisted they will part ways with Wout Weghorst only if they find a replacement and agree to the terms of his departure.

“With the victories over Adana Demirspor and Kasimpasa, we have returned to a good mood. In this critical period, I will not leave the team without a striker,” said Ahmet Nur Cebi.

“If we agree terms after bringing in a quality striker, we’ll send Weghorst away. Otherwise, Weghorst will remain in the team.”

Meanwhile, Weghorst appeared to say goodbye to the Besiktas fans as he celebrated his goal in a 2-1 win over Kasimpasa last week. Weghorst, who joined Besiktas at the start of the 22/23 season, has been impressive for the Turkish outfit.
