Benitez on Liverpool’s derby victory & a potential return to management

Rafael Benítez has called Liverpool’s win over Everton on Monday night “important” and has looked ahead to the Reds’ big Champions League clash with Real Madrid next week.

Jurgen Klopp’s side grabbed their first three points of the season with a 2-0 defeat of the Toffees and will look for their second win of the week against Newcastle at St. James’ Park tomorrow.

“I saw Liverpool-Everton and I think it was very important for Liverpool because they have reconnected with the sensations,” the Spaniard told Onda Cero (via Express). “But they have lost many pieces.”

After our trip to the northeast, our attention turns to the most important competition in Europe and the visit of the giants of La Liga to L4.

We owe Madrid one after they beat us in the Champions League final in Paris last year.

However, Benítez has warned Klopp that although several of his players are now returning to fitness, they may lack a little bit of sharpness going into the game and he thinks Carlo Ancelotti’s side will target Trent Alexander-Arnold as Right side.

“If Madrid manages to get out of the pressure playing and finds Alexander-Arnold’s back there, they are going to hurt them. The players who are recovering will not arrive with the rhythm of the competition, ”he added.

The 62-year-old, who has been out of a job since being sacked by Everton in January last year, also discussed what kind of opportunity will lure him back into the dugout.

“I would like to take a project where I can work with young people and reach the level that you can reach, I would like to do that,” he said.

“There are teams that would never sign me because I have been in the rival. I couldn’t go to Barcelona… Atlético would be something else.

“What I wouldn’t do is spend five years in the middle of the table. The offers that I have had do not motivate me. I would like to take a project and try to take it to the maximum.”

Liverpool fans chanted Benítez’s name on Monday night to further frustrate Blues fans and it would be great to see the Spaniard involved in the game again in the near future.
