Liverpool supporters may not have been very aware of the links between the club and Enzo Fernández before the start of the World Cup, but since the events in Qatar, the Argentine has been on the radar of many.
There were some outlets that reported that the Reds had reached an agreement with Benfica for the player, but it seems that these stories were misplaced, although an offer could have been made.
As reported by Record (via BBC Sport): “Benfica rejected a €100m (£88m) offer from an unnamed club for Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández, who has been linked again with the Reds and Real, and the Portuguese club will not sell below the 21-year-old’s €120m (£106m) release clause.

Having been awarded the best young player in the tournament in which his nation emerged victorious, the 21-year-old will be on the watch list of many clubs around the world, so the offer really could have come from anyone.
With the former River Plate midfielder joining his new club this summer, there is no real need to rush a sale on his front unless there is an offer that meets the release clause.
That’s not just because that’s when they would have to sell the player, but with four and a half years remaining on his contract, there is still little need to get paid and they can still benefit from his performances on the pitch.
Whether an Anfield move turns out to be their ultimate destination, this looks to be a story that will resonate for many months to come as well.
