The president of Benfica, Rui Costa, has confirmed that they will let Enzo Fernández leave the club in the January transfer window if the possible suitors comply with the termination clause of his contract.
Enzo Fernández has been linked with a move away from Benfica in the upcoming January transfer window following his impressive performances for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The 21-year-old was part of the Argentina soccer team that lifted the 2022 FIFA World Cup title. He featured in all seven matches Argentina played at Qatar 2022: he started five of those matches and came out of the bank in two He also scored a goal and recorded an assist for Argentina at the FIFA World Cup.
His performance for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup also earned him the young player of the tournament award.

Benfica will let Enzo Fernández out in January if the release clause is met, says club president Rui Costa
Several top European clubs have been linked to an Enzo Fernández move in the January transfer window, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid.
Chelsea appear to be leading the race to sign Enzo Fernández, who joined Benfica just six months ago. The Portuguese team signed Fernández from Argentine River Plate in the summer transfer window.
Amid the interest that some European heavyweights have shown for Enzo Fernández, Benfica president Rui Costa has confirmed that they will let the Argentine go if his release clause is met.
“We don’t want to give up Enzo Fernández in January, but we are ready to accommodate the boy in case of an offer of 120 million euros,” Rui Costa told DAZN. [via GOAL].
Fernández’s current contract with Benfica runs until 2027. That means he has more than four years left on his current deal with the Portuguese club.
Since he arrived at Benfica, Enzo Fernández has played 24 games with the Portuguese team. He scored three goals and provided five assists for Benfica in those matches.
In the meantime, it remains to be seen if Chelsea or any other club interested in Fernández’s services will activate the release clause in his contract and sign the Argentine midfielder in the next January transfer window.
