Phil McNulty has stated that Mo Salah returned to his best form in the 2-1 win over Tottenham at the weekend.
The Egyptian led Liverpool to victory with two goals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to ensure the visitors cut the gap to fourth in the Premier League to seven points.
“But where Mohamed Salah is, there is always hope,” wrote the chief football editor for BBC Sport.
“He’s back to his best after a slow start to the season, seemingly in a more restricted role on the right flank, but he’s been lethal in recent weeks.
Salah’s two goals in the first half showed his world class and placed him seventh on Liverpool’s all-time list of league goalscorers with 124 goals.
“Liverpool had been exploiting the open spaces on Spurs’ right flank since kick-off and this was the route to Salah’s first goal, but the way he controlled Darwin Nunez’s pass in an instant before finishing with the left foot to Hugo Lloris was magical.
“Salah’s second was a gift from Eric Dier’s misplaced header to Lloris, but he showed composure and perfect technique to launch a shot over the Frenchman, the ball almost moving in slow motion as it floated towards the back of the net. ”.
The latest contributions of the former Roma player to the English top flight bring his total account for the season to 14 goals and 5 assists in 20 games (among all competitions).

It’s a return not to be scoffed at and one that would certainly support McNulty’s claim that we are finally seeing a version of Salah not seen since the first half of the 2021/22 campaign.
There is no doubt that such a reality, if accurate, bodes very well for our fortunes on the field beyond the World Cup, provided our £34m signing can maintain those levels beyond the break.
With a full break (Egypt will sit out the World Cup), one could argue that there is little reason why our ‘magical’ No.11 won’t hit the glorious highs of the previous period and help us climb back up the table. . .
