Bayern Munich’s Nagelsmann under pressure after defeat

Bayern Munich's Nagelsmann under pressure

Bayern Munich slipped to fourth place in the Bundesliga table after a 1-0 loss to Augsburg on Saturday. Mergim Berisha scored the only goal of the match for the locals. The German giants are now winless in four consecutive league games, their last victory in the competition coming almost a month ago against VfL Bochum.

After the match, manager Julian Nagelsmann stated that things will have to change in the future.

Bayern Munich’s Nagelsmann under pressure

“The recent negative trend is not good,” Nagelsmann told Sky Sports Germany. “A lot has to change. We are very, very laissez-faire in the last third. In training we don’t even have that much of a majority”.

The coach even suggested that he needs some time to assess the current situation at the club. “I’ll think, then we’ll see how things go from here. I think of everything, of myself, of the situation, of everything.”

The team’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidžić, was also very unhappy after the match. “We haven’t won in four games. I am a bit worried,” said Salihamidžić. “We didn’t finish several chances and conceded few chances. We can’t win like that in the Bundesliga. We have problems against physical teams. Now there are no excuses. Now we need wins.”

Reasons for Bayern Munich fans to stay positive

Despite Bayern Munich’s struggles in the league, they are still performing well in Champions League play. The 10-time defending Bundesliga champions sit at the top of the ‘group of death’ that includes Barcelona and Inter Milan. Bayern have already beaten both of their Group C contenders so far, without allowing a single goal.

However, Nagelsmann could be short due to his club’s domestic problems. Bayern has extremely high standards for the competition and could soon make a change in position. This is even if the club continues to be successful in the Champions League group stage. German manager Thomas Tuchel could possibly become an option, as he was recently sacked by Chelsea.
