Bayern Munich to swoop for Man United target Yann Sommer in January – Man United News And Transfer News

As David de Gea’s future at Manchester United hangs in the balance, the club has been linked with a plethora of goalkeepers from across Europe.

One of them is Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Yann Sommer, who was offered a job at the club in August as de Gea’s deputy but decided to stay in Germany to secure his place in Switzerland’s World Cup squad.

But earlier this month it emerged that Sommer is now considering his future as his contract is due to expire in June, at the same time as De Gea’s.

This means he could replace the Spaniard at the club, on a free transfer, rather than joining as a backup.

With reports that United are still interested in the 34-year-old, but not until June, it will be a shock to hear that some of Europe’s elite are joining them in the quest for his signature, most notably the which ones want it immediately.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, “Yann Sommer is an option for Bayern as the new goalkeeper to replace Neuer.

“The talks are ongoing, but they have not advanced yet.

“Inter are also interested in Sommer, but he will join as a free agent for next season.”

Manuel Neuer was injured a week after Germany were knocked out of the World Cup when he broke his leg in a skiing accident.

This means his advance will come immediately, ruining United’s – and Inter’s – chances of getting him for free in June.

The chance to join a team capable of winning the Champions League this season may be hard to resist for a player of Sommer’s age.
