Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
Over the summer, Meslier was linked with United before the club finally settled on a temporary move for Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United.
United’s scouting department was said to be a fan of the Frenchman, viewing him as a potential successor to long-term No. 1 David de Gea.
Chelsea had also expressed interest in the Leeds star.
However, according to Foot Mercato, Bayern Munich are now the club showing the most interest in Meslier amid their goalkeeping crisis.
The Bavarian club’s first-choice goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, is currently recovering from a serious injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for a long time.
The Bundesliga giants have scouted a number of names, including World Cup hero Emiliano Martinez.
Now it seems they have settled on a Meslier search.
“After Manchester United and Chelsea, it’s up to Bayern Munich to study the track that leads to the Frenchman from Leeds [Meslier].”
“Bayern Munich is thinking about the French goalkeeper. Not only Manuel Neuer’s injury, but also the question of his succession, has led the Bavarians to look for a new goalkeeper ”.
“The Frenchman’s agent, Yvon Pouliquen, was allegedly investigated by Munich leaders to take his temperature ahead of possible negotiations.”
United and Chelsea will be buoyed by the fact that, according to Foot Mercato, Meslier prefers a move to a Premier League side over a possible move to the Bundesliga.
