La Liga giants FC Barcelona are keen to sign Brazilian international Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Bruno Guimaraes joined the Audax academy at a very young age. The midfielder later graduated from the Audax academy and was promoted to the senior team.
In 2017, Bruno joined Athletico Paranaense on loan. Here he made his debut in the Brazilian Serie A. Guimaraes soon established himself in the Paraná lineup and signed a permanent contract with the club. He stayed on for two more years with the Brazilian outfit before joining French giants Lyon for a reported fee of €20m.
In Lyon, Bruno began to show his talent. the midfielder was highly praised for his consistent performances. He then got a spot on the Brazilian team. Bruno Guimaraes played a pivotal role for the Brazilian team that emerged victorious at the Tokyo Olympics. Eventually, the Brazilian midfielder joined English Premier League club Newcastle when the Magpies paid around £40m for him.
Barcelona intends to sign Bruno Guimaraes
Now, according to a report by English outlet The Sun, the Catalan giants FC Barcelona are exploring the possibility of signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the upcoming summer window.
After a bad season last, FC Barcelona made a barrage of signings at the beginning of this campaign. Players such as Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Hector Bellerin and Marcos Alonso signed.
The summer transfers settled in well and Barcelona got off to a great start to their La Liga campaign. They won ten of their first twelve matches. With thirty-one points, they are currently at the top of the table.
However, things have been quite different in the UEFA Champions League. After winning the first group game, Barcelona lost three of their next four matches. As a result, the Blaugrana have been left out of the group stage and, for the second time in a row, will participate in the Europa League.
Now, the Barcelona board is looking to make more signings in the coming windows and has identified many targets. Barcelona will most likely lose their club captain Sergio Busquets next season. Busquets has been one of Barcelona’s mainstays for more than a decade. But he is now past his prime and is not looking to extend his stay after this season.
Bruno Guimaraes is currently one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. Hence, Barcelona is interested in him. Now it is not the only club that wants to sign the midfielder. Clubs like Manchester City, Real Madrid and Chelsea are monitoring the midfielder.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United value him as the face of their project. After their recent acquisition, they want to rise as one of the best in the world. The Magpies have already confirmed that Bruno is untouchable but Barcelona remains reluctant. They will look to wrest the midfielder from him next summer.
