La Liga giants FC Barcelona are reportedly interested in bringing 21-year-old Argentine international Enzo Fernandez to Portuguese club Benfica’s Camp Nou.
The young Enzo Fernández joined River Plate’s youth team at a very young age. The midfielder then graduated from the River Plate youth academy and earned promotion to the senior team.
Enzo made his first-team debut for River Plate in 2019. However, the midfielder was not getting enough playing time, so he joined Argentine club Defensa y Justicia on loan. Enzo spent the first part of his loan primarily as a bench player. But little by little he was cementing his place in the starting eleven. Enzo then began to show his talent and helped Defense and Justice win the Copa Sudamericana.
After the successive transfer, he returned to River Plate. In a matter of days, Enzo became one of the best players on the team. The midfielder was then discovered by several big teams. However, he decided to join Primeira Liga side Benfica at the start of the current season.
Barcelona want Enzo Fernandez
After joining Benfica earlier this season, Enzo has now cemented his place in the starting eleven. The young midfielder has already contributed two goals and has scored three assists so far. He is currently one of the most talented young midfielders in the world and has caught the attention of many great teams.
Now, according to a recent report from Sport, Spanish giants FC Barcelona are considering a move for Enzo Fernandez next summer. They see him as the replacement for Sergio Busquets.
Barcelona captain Busquets is in the final years of his contract. The Spaniard, who has been one of Barcelona’s mainstays for more than a decade, has decided to leave the club at the end of the season. So Barcelona are looking at multiple options to replace the stalwart.
His first target MartÃn Zubimendi is about to extend his contract with Real Sociedad. Another big name on the list is Wolves’ Ruben Neves. However, there is still uncertainty about his performance by the Barça board. That’s where the interest in Enzo began.
