La Liga giants Barcelona and defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain will battle to secure Chelsea midfielder Jorginho on a free transfer during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Born in Brazil, Jorginho arrived in Italy at a very young age. He joined Hellas Verona’s youth setup. Shortly after, the midfielder was transferred to Sambonifacese. he spent a season there and returned to his parent club.
Jorginho then graduated from the Helles Verona academy and was promoted to the senior team. He stayed three more seasons at Helles Verona before joining Italian giants Napoli. Jorginho spent four seasons at Napoli and won a Coppa Italia and an Italian Super Cup
He played 160 games for the Gil Azzurri and was sold to Chelsea for 50 million euros. The Italian international got off to a slow start at Chelsea. But when Thomas Tuchel came to the club, he helped Jorginho become one of the best players in the world. the Italian international played a huge role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph and was also named UEFA Player of the Year.
Barcelona and PSG will fight for Jorginho
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Spanish giants Barcelona are looking to sign Italian international Jorginho in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona sees Jorginho as the replacement for club captain Busquets. Busquets has been a starter at the defensive midfield position for more than a decade. The midfielder is currently past his prime and his contract will expire at the end of this season.
It has been understood that Sergio Busquets does not want to stay at the club beyond that. Hence, Barcelona is studying possible replacements for him. Now there are not many players in the world who can play like Busquets.
Chelsea midfielder Jorginho falls into that narrow category. He has the ability to play as a playmaker on the deep line. His defensive skills are also top notch. Hence, Barcelona is looking at him.
Reports also suggest that French club PSG are also interested in the midfielder. They are going to rival Barcelona in the signing of Jorginho. After the arrival of Christophe Galtier and Luis Campos, the French club has made great signings. Now he wants to reinforce his midfield with Jorginho
The Italian midfielder’s contract with Chelsea will end next season. According to reports, he wants a salary of 8-9 million euros. Chelsea, however, are not interested in giving more than 6 million euros. Hence, the midfielder seeks to leave the club.
