“At the team’s service” – Bernardeschi explains his mediocre Juventus stats -Juvefc.com

In 2017, Juventus once again caused an outrage in Florence by snapping up another great talent from Fiorentina. At the time, Federico Bernardeschi was one of the most promising young players in Italian football.

Unfortunately, the winger left Turin after five campaigns without reaching his great potential. Last summer, the 28-year-old joined Toronto FC on a free transfer after finishing his contract with Juventus.

The Euro 2020 winner is enjoying a bright start to his North American experience, establishing himself as a key player for his new club alongside compatriot Lorenzo Insigne.

In his first ten starts in MLS, Bernardeschi has already found the back of the net eight times. Interestingly, it’s the same number of goals he scored during his five years at Juventus.

However, the Italian tries to justify this phenomenon by explaining how he used to sacrifice himself for the greater cause while in Turin.

“Honestly, I expected to score more goals in Toronto. Now I also shoot penalties, which obviously helps,” Bernardeschi said in an interview with TuttoJuve.

“I have always had goals in my legs, that never changes, but at Juventus I put myself aside. I was at the service of the team. I thought more about the collective result than about the personal one”.

The former Fiorentina player agreed that his performance in the second leg against Atletico Madrid in 2019 was the best for Juventus. He also revealed that he still follows the Bianconeri and cheers on his former teammates.
