Argentina World Cup win brings Andres Cantor to tears on TV

Argentina won the World Cup in dramatic fashion by beating France in what was arguably one of the greatest finals of all time. Lionel Messi and company. they beat the 2018 Champions League on penalties after it ended 3-3 after extra time.

Argentina led the game with two early first-half goals, but a quick brace from Kylian Mbappé ten minutes from time meant the game went into extra time. Messi gave his team a 3-2 lead, but Mbappé responded once again with his second penalty of the night to restore equality with 2 minutes remaining.

However, it was the South American team that prevailed in the penalty shootout thanks to the heroics of Emiliano Martínez.

Telemundo calls the winning spot

Telemundo’s Andrés Cantor, who was commentating during the final, couldn’t contain his emotions as Gonzalo Montiel stepped forward to score the shot that gave the Albiceleste their third World Cup title, their first since 1986.

Cantor, born in Buenos Aires, shed tears of joy after Argentina’s epic triumph. The 59-year-old has been covering the World Cup since 1990 and his iconic ‘GOOOOOOOOOLLLLL’ has become a familiar narrative among American viewers.

Happiness tears

Cantor, grabbing his broadcast partner, burst into tears and yelled, “ARGENTINA CAMPEON DE MUNDO!” which translates as “Argentina, world champions”.

Cantor’s call went viral on social media and would go down in history by immortalizing the occasion when Lionel Messi finally fulfilled his dream of winning the biggest trophy in world football.

The Argentine-born commentator joined NBC’s broadcast team for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and has become an asset to the English and Spanish broadcast covering major events around the world.

Translated into English, Cantor’s heartfelt words were: “GOOOOOOOOOL, Argentina is the champion. Argentina is world champion. Argentina is the WORLD CHAMPION. From heaven they did.

You did it, gamers. They won heaven. Argentina is world champion. Messi is the world champion. It could not be otherwise. Argentinian Lionel Scaloni’s Argentine team is world champion. Argentinian Argentina is world champion. 36 years, waiting. Argentina, Argentina is the world champion”.
