Andy Ruiz Jr. showed off a new physique on a FOX taping earlier this week, and the boxing world went wild. However, the scales told a different story.
“The Destroyer” actually weighs the same as he did in Anthony Joshua’s first fight in June 2019 despite an expected weight loss.

He got to a score just above 268. Ortiz got to 245.
However, Ruiz has packed on muscle, which could be a telling factor in his battle with aging warhorse Luis Ortiz.
Prior to Pay Per View, Ruiz and his trainer discussed the Premier Boxing Champions event.
“I feel great. It means a lot to be fighting in Los Angeles. To fight in front of all my fans and supporters, I’m ready to go,” Ruiz said.
“Everyone who supports me is my motivation to keep going. If this ends in a knockout, it ends in a knockout. My only goal is to be victorious.
“I am in shape to give twelve hard rounds. We will go in there and leave it all in the ring.”
On his new physique, Ruiz added: “I am proof that anything is possible if you work hard and are disciplined.
“The main thing right now is to achieve our goal on Sunday night and leave the ring with a raised hand.”

Ruiz’s trainer, Alfredo Osuna, along with a new strength and conditioning coach, is responsible for the transformation, saying, “We are ready to take on Luis Ortiz and give every fan the fight they want to see on September 4. .
“Andy is in great shape. He couldn’t be doing better. The best part of this training camp is the joy and discipline of it. He is as dedicated as he has always been.
“We know that Luis Ortiz is a dangerous opponent who deserves all our respect. But he not only had those two losses, but both were by knockout.
“That’s what we’re looking for.”
On Luis Ortiz’s trainer’s fight talk in the build-up, Osuna added: “Herman Caicedo can say what he wants about me and Andy’s chemistry.
“I have been called into question before and proved everyone wrong. If he says, I don’t have enough experience with Andy. He has an open invitation to come and work with us, and we will show him the vibe that we have at Team Ruiz.”
Giving his predicted ending, Osuna concluded: “There is a very high percentage chance that this fight will end in a knockout.
“We are prepared for anything, but we will see what happens. My message to the fans is get out there because it’s going to be a war.
“This is the kind of fight that people love to watch.”

The event also featured exciting lightweight contender Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz and fellow Mexican veteran Eduardo Ramirez.
They fight in a WBC Lightweight Title Eliminator in the co-main event.
In addition, the three-time world champion Abner Mares and Miguel Flores duel in ten rounds.
Undefeated rising star Jose Valenzuela will face Edwin De Los Santos in the telecast opener at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT.
Valenzuela would face Jezreel Corrales. He was forced to withdraw due to visa problems.
