Andy Robertson on what is ‘so hard to say to the fans’

Liverpool have had a stuttering campaign at best and back-to-back wins over Manchester City and West Ham were met with surprise defeat to Nottingham Forest, Andy Robertson reflected on the game and how the Reds can progress from here .

Speaking to the club’s website, the Scotland captain anticipated our next game against Ajax: “We’ll be ready and we just have to keep going. It’s very hard to say that to the fans, but today’s fans traveled in numbers and I think they could see that we gave it our all. We tried everything, but today it just didn’t fit.

“But when you’re in a good place, it’s probably a little bit easier for the fans to accept it; when you are in a more difficult moment, I feel frustrated. But we’re just as frustrated, if not more.”

It’s probably the same levels of frustration for everyone at the moment as Jurgen Klopp’s side repeatedly show form that shows why we might be fighting for a league title, but also why we might also struggle to get a result between the top four.

However, confidence, consistency and injuries are really costing us at the moment and every game seems to be a draw for which side we will see on the pitch.

Nine players missing for the trip to the City Ground will never help anywhere and if we score any of the big chances that come our way, there is a very good chance that we will win the game.

Our left-back will know that there is enough quality within our team to maintain good form and it could be that the World Cup comes at a good time in terms of restoring confidence within the team.
