However, he was not in Cameroon’s squad for their second Group G match at Qatar 2022 after he reportedly fell out with Cameroon coach Rigobert Song. Speaking after Cameroon’s 3-3 draw with Serbia in a Group G match, Song explained that Onana was not in the squad for disciplinary reasons.

He also left the Cameroon national team before their match against Serbia and was also not part of the squad that faced Brazil in their last Group G game.

“My feelings have not changed. My Cameroonian heart will continue to beat, and wherever it goes, it will strive to always raise the Cameroonian flag as high as possible.

“I will continue to support Cameroon as a fan, as 27 million Cameroonians do in every game. I can only thank everyone who trusted me and believed that I could contribute to the team”.
