By Adam Baskin: Amir Khan is giving Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis the edge over Ryan Garcia if the two meet in a megafight this December.
Khan feels that Tank’s (27-0, 25 KOs) punching power makes him a formidable foe for 23-year-old Ryan Garcia, who has yet to face anyone as good as him.
Ryan’s best hope of beating Tank, according to Khan, would be to keep him at long range and not allow him to get on his feet to get maximum power from his shots. With the skill and boxing power of the 27-year-old Davis, he could get to Ryan at some point and knock him out.
Most boxing fans would agree that the Golden Boy-promoted Ryan could use a couple more years of experience under his belt to give himself a better chance of beating Tank Davis.
In Ryan’s rush to take on Tank, he won’t get that experience. Ryan wants that fight now, and he’s just going to have to hope for the best.
“A fight between Ryan Garcia and Tank. It’s a good fight,” Amir Khan said on social media when asked about a fight between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia.
“Tank is a beast. He’s got a great name, Tank, because he’s a bit of a tank, to be honest with you. Whoever they put in front of him, he doesn’t just hit them, he destroys them.
“If Ryan Garcia and Tank fought, I’m going for Tank. I like Ryan Garcia. Unless Ryan keeps it long and blocks, keep it long, hit and move, and don’t let Tank settle.
“When Tank settles down, he gets those big power shots. You don’t want to let him do that. You want to keep it moving.
“If Lomachenko fights Tank, I think Tank will win again, but again, I think it’s a more difficult fight for Tank because it’s so technical. Loma is very technical.
“Do you believe that? ‘Tank vs. Ryan Garcia breaking pay-per-view records.’ I can’t see that happening. I am sorry. I disagree with you on that because being big in the boxing world, Ryan is, yes. But it’s not like the fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao.
“So, I can’t see that really breaking any big records. He’ll make four or five hundred thousand purchases,” Khan said of the fight between Tank and Ryan.
