Alisson Becker has claimed Liverpool “cannot rely on excuses” after they put up a lackluster performance against Leicester on Friday despite winning all three points.
The Reds had Foxes defender Wout Faes to thank after he scored two first-half own goals to put Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead after they initially fell behind on a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall goal .
The Brazilian goalkeeper has insisted that he and his teammates must “do better” when they take on Brentford in west London tomorrow.
“We can’t rely on excuses,” our number 1 told LFCTV (via Liverpool Echo). “It was only the second game (of the Premier League) that we played after the World Cup.
“The players who had (rest) time used it to prepare. Those who went to the World Cup were able to train and then rest to prepare for this moment.
“Speaking of me and the players that went to the World Cup, we were focused there on the games, but after we finished, it was clear with my mind here focused on the next things in front of us.
“It is going to be a very important moment of the season now and we have to concentrate. We have to do better. Sometimes it’s just a matter of mindset. It is not so easy to change it, but we can do it for sure.”

Although the performance was far from ideal, Alisson knows that the three points were the main thing.
We are currently sixth in the table and four points behind Manchester United who are sitting bottom of the Champions League.
The former Roma player added: “The only thing we could get out of Friday was the victory and the effort we put in on the field. But there is a lot of room for improvement, looking at the performance, we have to do much better if the ambition is to continue to achieve the goals in front of us.
“We have high expectations and the fans have high expectations of us. We are a great club, Liverpool is a great club that will always try to fight for titles and be at the top all the time. We have to do more. But we know that.”
Winning games when you are not at your best is a sign of a good team, but we will not always be so lucky and we will have own goals to thank for giving us victory.
Thomas Frank’s Brentford are unbeaten since the return of Premier League football after the World Cup and have received a major injury boost with Ivan Toney potentially available for tomorrow’s match.
However, Alisson is keen to build on the positives from our clash with Leicester and wants us to claim our fifth successive league win tomorrow in the capital.
“Sometimes it’s a good feeling to win a game that isn’t fair,” he said. “We have to look at the positive side as well. We have to focus on the win and the three points.
“We don’t have too much time to complain about the acting. We just have to keep going and prepare better for the next game and do better.”
New Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo could be available to make his debut tomorrow, but Jurgen Klopp has hinted that our FA Cup clash with Wolves on January 7 is when the Dutchman is most likely to make his first appearance with the Reds.
