Alisson explains what Liverpool are doing in order to ‘fight’ on all fronts

Liverpool had Alisson Becker to thank once again when they defeated West Ham 1-0 at Anfield on Wednesday night.

After recording the assist for Mo Salah’s winner against Manchester City on Sunday, the Brazilian goalkeeper ensured the Reds made their second clean sheet in as many games with a superb Jarrod Bowen penalty save.

Darwin Núñez earned applause for scoring the winner with what was his first goal at Anfield for his new club, but the former AS Roma goalkeeper played another vital role for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who now occupy the seventh place in the Premier League table.

“I am very happy because we work very hard every day to come here and perform,” said our number 1 (quoted by Liverpool Offside). “Sometimes things don’t go the way we want but I think in the last few games it’s been working.

“Since the beginning of the season we have big goals to fight for every competition we are in. We started well with the Community Shield against Man City. It gave us a bit of confidence, but we didn’t use it for the Premier League and then we lost confidence.

“We lost players due to injuries, and that is something that affected the team, the rhythm, players who had not played for a long time. All the circumstances around us affected us a bit. On the pitch, the performances weren’t too bad either, but they weren’t enough”.

Our second-half performance against the Hammers wasn’t ideal, but when you consider that we’ve just won a massive three points against City at the weekend and now gear up for the trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, the result against David’s side Moyes was always going to be more important than acting.

Liverpool are now just four points behind Chelsea, bottom of the Champions League, and Alisson was keen to explain that while his side may have turned a corner recently, there is still a long way to go this season.

“We just stick together,” he added. “It was something we talked about a lot, sticking together in this difficult time.

“Working hard, working every day, not just on match days. Now things are coming out, the results are coming in, but we don’t have to be too excited about it. We have to keep our feet on the ground and stay united, keep working. It’s a long season for everyone.”

There is no doubt that the 30-year-old is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, if not the best: he not only prevents goals, he creates and scores them too!

He is adored by all Reds fans and it is clear that he feels at home on Merseyside.

Hopefully he can keep up his excellent form to ensure we are as successful as possible this season.
