Alfie Haaland suggests his son could soon leave Manchester City

Haaland leaves Manchester City

Erling Haaland’s father recently suggested that his son might want to leave Manchester City sooner than expected. The superstar striker only moved to Manchester’s blue side this summer. City paid $66 million to bring the Norwegian from Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking in a new documentary called Haaland: The Big Decision, Alfie Haaland claimed that Erling wanted to eventually play in Europe’s top leagues.

“I think Erling wants to show his skills in all leagues,” said Alfie Haaland. “So he can stay there for three or four years at the most. He could be, for example, two and a half years in Germany, two and a half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?

Plans to move away from Manchester will surely not make City fans happy. Haaland has easily been the best player in the Premier League so far this season and has scored goals with ease. In fact, the Norwegian international has already scored 11 league goals in just seven games. Overall, Haaland has amassed 14 goals in nine games in total during the current campaign.

Does Haaland already want to leave Manchester City?

Alfie’s revelations about his son’s future are particularly interesting considering there are release clauses in Erling’s contract with City. The Telegraph suggested that Haaland has two different clauses that can be triggered in 2024 and 2025. The timeline of these two stipulations dovetails with Alfie’s aforementioned comments.

Teams can apparently sign Haaland in the summer of 2024 for a fee of around $195 million. This release clause could be closer to $146 million a year later, in 2025. While these numbers are admittedly huge, the 2025 fee could still be a solid option considering his current pace of goals.

Haaland will certainly have a long list of suitors in the coming seasons. Alfie even suggested that his son choose City over Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool, Chelsea and Barcelona. As Real’s Karim Benzema nears the end of his current contract, the Spanish giants could have the perfect replacement for their own superstar.
