Manchester United are finally getting closer to an agreement with Alejandro Garnacho on a new contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The teenager’s current contract expires at the end of next season, raising concerns among United fans keen to see the youngster stay at the club.
Interest from the likes of Real Madrid has also been a cause for concern, with La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid also in the picture.
But Romano hopes that Garnacho will remain Diablo Rojo for a while and believes that an agreement will be reached soon.
“So for Garnacho, Man United feels he is close,” Romano told Give Me Sport. “It’s not a done deal yet, but they’re confident.
“Man United is very optimistic, they have been talking with Garnacho since the summer, because the first negotiations were in June. Then it took some time to negotiate on the player’s side.”
That extra time was undoubtedly due to Garnacho’s impressive performances since fast-tracking into United’s senior squad.
He scored two game-winning goals and provided four assists in 595 minutes of senior soccer, giving him a goal involvement roughly every 99 minutes.
He has also impressed a lot with his direct run, energy and ability to go both ways thanks to his bipedality.
As previously reported by The Peoples Person, Garnacho’s contract could end up being historic.
With around £32,000 a week currently on the table, the Argentine is set to become the highest-paid teenager in the club’s history, while there has also been talk of a release clause being allowed in the deal.
Earlier reports indicating a seven-year contract is in the offing would also be a first for United, should that happen.
Whatever the finer detail, fans will expect a quick resolution and years of witnessing Garnacho’s talent at Old Trafford.
