Agent reveals how Juventus missed out on the signature of MertensJuvefc.com

Juventus are one of the clubs that wanted to sign Dries Mertens this summer, and now it has been revealed that he did not feel like joining them.

The Bianconeri wanted to sign an experienced attacker in the latest transfer window, with reports linking several names to a move to the club.

Merten had been one of the best players in Serie A, where he had played for Napoli.

He exhausted his contract with the Partenopei and was looking for a new home.

Juve considered adding him to their group as one of the best options on their list.

However, it is difficult for players to join Juve from Napoli, and that was an unlikely blow.

The Belgian rejected Juve’s proposal and his agent reveals that it was even bigger than the other offers they received.

Stijn Francis said, quoted by Football Italia:

“If you compare it with the offer from Juventus, what we are asking Napoli for is very little. There was no negotiation, it was take it or leave it.

“With Juventus there was a concrete and interesting conversation, for us and for Dries. But he knew in his heart that he couldn’t do it.”

Juve FC says

Mertens would have been a great signing, but it would take a lot for him to join us.

The Belgian has a reputation as one of Napoli’s favourites, and he certainly didn’t think joining Juve was worth destroying.
