Aged 39, Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery retires from Football

Franck Ribery, a former Bayern Munich legend and French international, recently announced his retirement at the age of 39.

Ribery had not played for his current club Salernitana since his first game of the season against Roma. There were many rumors suggesting that the striker would retire soon. And now Ribéry has finally put an end to his brilliant career as a player.

Former UEFA Champions League winner Franck Ribery wrote on social media: “The ball stops. The feelings inside me don’t.”

He also added: “Thank you all for this great adventure.”

A look at Franck Ribery’s career

Franck Ribery began his football career in the academy of his local club Conti Boulogne. He spent seven years at his local club before joining the French Giants Lille academy.

Ribéry trained for three years at the Lille academy and signed for US Boulogne. Here he finished his football education and was promoted to the main team. Ribéry then played two seasons for Bolougne and left the club.

In the following two seasons, he played for two more clubs in the amateur divisions, called Ales and Brest, before finally signing for Ligue 1 side Metz in 2004. However, it was only after six months that Ribery left the club and joined joined the Turkish team Galatasaray.

Then once again, within six months, he left the Turkish club and returned to France to play for Marseille. Finally, in Marseille, Ribery began to show his true potential. He led Marseille to the Coupe de France final in consecutive seasons.
