Manchester United U18s traveled to Newcastle on Saturday looking to continue their perfect season in the league.
In the early stages, both sides exchanged some half-chances without really threatening to make a breakthrough. It wasn’t until the half hour mark that United had the first real chance.
Ethan Williams passed the ball to Jayce Fitzgerald on the left, recovered the pass back in the box and unleashed a shot that was pushed towards the post.
United began to take control of the match in the closing stages of the first half, creating more opportunities, but failed to take the lead before the break.
It didn’t take long in the second half for United to find the net and Williams scored in the 57th minute.
After initially doing well to win the ball, Jacob Devaney squared the ball to Williams, who let the ball pass his body to strike with his low left foot into the right corner from outside the box.
Tom Myles was challenged with a well-taken free kick that curved into the top corner, but the goalkeeper saved accurately.
However, a miscommunication at the back in the 78th minute saw the game level at 1-1 when Tom Myles ran out of his net just as Jack Kingdon passed it to him and the ball sailed past him and into the goal. .
However, parity did not last long and United regained the lead within two minutes. Ashton Missin cut in from the left, patiently trying to find the opening before firing into the bottom corner.
Jayce Fitzgerald then sealed the three points in the final moments, bursting in behind from the left. He could have passed Gabriele Biancheri for an easy finish, but he took care of himself and made no mistake to seal three points with a resounding 3-1 victory.
The victory allows United to continue their perfect season with 11 wins in 11 in the league and extend their considerable lead at the top of the table.
