Academy Match report: Manchester United u21s 0-2 PSV Eindhoven u21s – Man United News And Transfer News

The Manchester United under-21 side faced PSV Eindhoven last night in the Premier League International Cup.

The match was one more in a long list this season that was not televised, leaving supporters puzzled by the lack of coverage for the club’s under-21s as they were forced to make do with just two minutes of highlights published on the club’s website.

The visitor had the first shot on goal, forcing a save from Ondrej Mastny below his left.

United thought they had their first goal after Sam Mather’s blocked shot fell to Shola Shoretire from 10 yards out, but the Dutch side’s fast-action defending ensured the follow-up attempt was also blocked.

Seconds later, Shoretire’s hard running allowed him to win the fumble and reach the end line to cross the goal of Joe Hugill, who inexplicably managed to miss from just four yards with an open net to aim for.

Shoretire was the main man in attack throughout, as he had the PSV defenders struggling to block a flurry of efforts before the end of the half.

Just two minutes after the restart, PSV took the lead after a cross was allowed to bounce into the box and Canadian Simon Colyn was alert at the far post to control and pass Mastny.

Colyn looked to add a second to his tally soon after with a long-range curling effort that narrowly missed the left post.

PSV doubled their lead in the 78th minute after some fine passing play on the left opened up space for Isaac Babadi to cut and shoot into the bottom left corner from 20 metres.

United nearly fell back when Omari Forson’s shot from outside the box forced the keeper to deflect into the path of Mateo Mejía, but the keeper quickly recovered and lent the Spaniard’s effort a helping hand.

The final whistle would be blown to seal a 0-2 defeat for United as they remain winless in the competition with their final match coming up next month against Feyenoord.
