Academy Match report: Manchester United u18s 1-4 Newcastle United u18s – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United’s under-18s hosted Newcastle United in the Under-18 Premier League Cup yesterday, their second game of the group stage after opening with a loss to Aston Villa.

The first chances came to United, with Adam Berry taking advantage of a poor pass from the Newcastle goalkeeper before taking a shot that went wide of the post.

A delicious diagonal ball from Dan Gore found Jack Kingdon, who controlled down for Berry to shoot from 10 yards, but the midfielder couldn’t contain his shot and sent it over the crossbar.

Newcastle responded from behind on the left to force a fine save from Eric Hanbury at the other end.

United came close with a James Nolan run down the left, but the placed shot was saved by the goalkeeper’s foot.

United would finally take the lead in the 25th minute when Gore crossed into a dangerous area for Finley McAllister to slide in and hit the net from six yards out.

The goal would light a fire under Newcastle as they turned up the intensity and closed in, forcing a goal-line clearance from the corner.

But their pressure would pay off, as they stole the ball on a bad touch from Sonny Aljofree and wound up beating Hanbury to equalise.

Minutes later, things took a turn for the worse for United when Newcastle struck again with Josh Donaldson’s well-placed header into the bottom left corner to take the lead just before half-time.

United looked to come from behind in the second half, and Nolan had a great chance at the far post from a cross from Berry, but the keeper was quick to deny.

However, it was Newcastle who would attack again, when Lewis Miley rounded Hanbury and slipped into the open net.

Miley sealed the game late with another goal from close range, taking advantage of the square pass to make it 1-4.

The defeat sees Manchester United sitting on zero points with just one game remaining in the group and virtually no chance of advancing, a sign of a poor start to the season for the club’s under-18s and under-21s.
