AC Milan set meeting to discuss potential contract extension for Rafael Leao – Man United News And Transfer News

AC Milan have set up a meeting between the club and Rafael Leao’s agent to discuss a possible contract extension.

The top priority for the fans is for the Portuguese striker to stay at the club beyond his current contract.

His contract expires in June 2024 and, given the strong interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, it seems unlikely that he will stay beyond that date.

Leao has had a good season so far with AC Milan, scoring seven goals in 20 appearances for his club.

He scored his first two international goals during the World Cup in Portugal and has drawn the attention of Man United.

With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, it seems likely that the club will look for a new striker in the winter transfer window.

Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay have also been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months.

According to Calciomercato, the date of the next summit with Leao’s agent has already been set.

However, a deal is still a ways off after a grueling round of previous negotiations.

This despite the fact that Leao has been clearly showing his love for the Italian club on social networks.

United will no doubt be on high alert regarding any potential collapse in talks and will be hoping they can scream to secure a talented young striker.

The outlet reports that head coach Pioli is pushing for an extension and is keen not to lose the talented striker.

Technical director Paolo Maldini and director of football Frederic Massara have done well to up the figures for Leao’s current contract in their initial proposal.

However, the 23-year-old is betting on double-digit figures that will complicate any deal between club and player. Milan have offered €6m a year, their salary cap, plus €1m in bonuses, but Leao is holding out on €12m.

The next meeting, scheduled for early January, will try to bridge the gap that still exists in the agreement.

One option could be that the club have to move Leao while the transfer window remains open next month.
