“A wonderful person… best in the world” – How Liverpool’s No. 1 enraptured ex-Red – Liverpool FC

Alisson has amassed a massive fanbase at Anfield and a former Liverpool goalkeeper sits among them, proudly describing himself as an “Alisson fanatic”.

The Reds have had a long line of legendary figures between the sticks since the club’s inception, goalkeepers who have proven invaluable in the quest for trophies.

Ray Clemence, Tommy Lawrence, Bruce Grobbelaar and Elisha Scott are among them, and Alisson is forging her own legend and making it all look easy while doing it.

The Brazilian has played 192 times for Liverpool, a total of 20 fewer games than David James played consecutively for the club between 1994 and 1998.

James and Alisson donned the number 1 Liverpool jersey but experienced varying degrees of success on the pitch, but it is off the pitch that the former has much value.

And it’s the combination of Alisson’s skill on the field and his personality off it that has captivated James, among many others.

“Best in the world. I’m a fan,” James told This Is Anfield from Alisson.

“When it comes near [to my clean sheet tally] I hope he goes back to Brazil or something, just so he doesn’t beat me!” she joked.

“I am a fan of Alisson.

“The way he plays is fine, he is the best. He kicks it, he catches it, he saves it, he does what he has to do.

“But fortunately I met him and interviewed him and he is a wonderful person. he is a bit like bruce [Grobbelaar] In a way, I don’t know how Liverpool do it. [find those characters].

“I like Bruce’s goalkeeping style, so you like the person even if you don’t know them. When I joined the club he was as good as I thought he would be.

Alisson is the same. You watch him play and it’s like ‘wow, what a guy.’ He seems like a really nice guy and then you meet him and you talk to him and it’s like, he is!

“I’m a fan!”

You are certainly not alone there.

But Alisson is only 17 clean sheets away from ousting the Englishman, and sorry David, we hope he doesn’t return to Brazil any time soon!
