An annoying Sunday | Arseblog … an Arsenal blog

Good day. A very quick Sunday blog for you. The continued lack of news on Arsenal means it will be brief.

There was Premier League action yesterday and the evening’s match confirmed my belief that Newcastle are the most annoying football club on the planet. If they aren’t committing and getting away with random acts of GBH, they are being useless idiots. 2-2 against Man City with the game in injury time and of course they let in a late goal. Nice feet from Oscar Bobb, but still.

I think the most annoying thing was the 2-2 goal. Look, City are an excellent team, as we all know, and they’re even better when Kevin de Bruyne is available, but the Newcastle goalkeeper should wear the cone of shame all week for his dismal effort to keep out that shot. On the other hand, when your defense allows City 27 shots in a game and you have only 27% possession at home, you are likely to concede.

I suspect the clock is ticking for Eddie Howe. Sure, they have some injuries, but that doesn’t make them unique. It’s already 6 defeats in his last 7 games, which is obviously something to enjoy… but City winning the way he did is also infuriating. The goodness of Newcastle’s sadness is offset by the fact that Pep is very, very happy. So happy you can’t believe how happy he is. There’s an inevitability to them that’s kind of deflating. His special vegetables also appear in the second half of the season, so there will probably be more to come.

I guess the good thing about the fake choirboy getting fired, if it happens, is that his gobby henchman will be kicked out too. José Mourinho in Newcastle feels almost assured. It would be like Satan setting up a nightclub and hiring Vlad the Impaler to run it. Perfect work symmetry.

“Tonight is 70s and 80s Italo Disco night… with DJ Sven the Stabber, and in Blood Room we have MC Lance to impale you with a giant pointy stick.”

Going forward, there is the potential for even more irritation when Man Utd host Sp*rs. This is a classic of the ‘I hope it ends 4-4 with 3 red cards, VAR controversy, a series of hamstring and calf strains and someone leaving on a stretcher’ genre. Ideally he would be one of the coaches, but United are so bad this season that I suspect the bad result will happen. We could also do with Everton not being rubbish against Aston Villa, but with the old T-Rex arms in goal for them, I don’t have much hope for that.

I’m already getting annoyed with all this, so I’m going to make a sausage sandwich. Enjoy your Sunday anyway friends.
