Christian Mbilli batters brave Rohan Murdock, scores sixth round TKO

QUEBEC CITY – Super middleweight contender Christian Mbilli delivered a gruesome beating to tough Rohan Murdock before his corner took him out at the conclusion of the sixth-round stoppage at the Videotron Center in Quebec City, Canada.

Mbilli, The Ring’s No. 2 ranked super middleweight, started typically fast with his usual brand of all-out attack and had Murdock on defense. The bigwigs were greeted with cheers of ‘Mbilli, Mbilli’. The polite pressure continued in the second round, forcing the Australian onto the ropes in the trade. Late in the round, Mbilli hurt Murdock with a pair of right hands. Mbilli also landed several debilitating body shots that left Murdock breathless.

Murdock is strong. He took all my good hits. But in my case, I thought I would finish him off in one more round. But his team put an end to the fight. He is a good fighter, but I am the best today,” Mbilli said in an interview with ESPN afterwards.

Both fighters exchange intense shots in the third round and each is successful. The head and body combination has Murdock back on the ropes in Round 4. In the final 30 seconds of the round, a straight right hand from Mbilli sends Murdock’s mouthpiece flying two rows back and he is quickly caught by Top Rank’s Carl Moretti. throws him back into the ring. .

The fifth round was a big round for Mbilli, who softened his opponents’ ribs with several nasty body shots and even more clean headshots. Murdock showed an excellent fighting constitution to make it through the round. It was impressive how he didn’t fall let alone be stopped.

Mbilli took a breather for much of the sixth round, but then exploded with a right hand that sent Murdock into the ropes. Once again, Mbilli went for it and had the Australian taking heavy shots late in the round.

Between the sixth and seventh rounds, Murdock’s corner decided to take out their man and end the process. It seemed like a good decision.

Mbilli outshot and outshot Murdock in each of the six rounds completed. Mbilli landed 236 of 505 punches, for a connection rate of 46.7 percent, while Murdock landed 89 of 358, equal to 24.9 percent of his punches.

“Tonight I sent a message. I am the future of the division. That is the message today,” Mbilli said.

“Canelo is the best. Everyone knows that. But now I want to show that I am the best in the division. My goal is to fight him. “I would do anything to fight him.”
