Heavyweight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller has seen his share of controversy since he burst onto the scene nearly a decade ago. However, on Tuesday in Hollywood, Florida, Miller found himself in the kind of situation that could lead to him serving time. According to 7 News Miami, Miller “was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing a pickup truck from a dealership in Hollywood.” A woman reportedly arrived at Haims Motors in Hollywood to claim that she left her cell phone in a vehicle that she had repossessed. Detectives were told that a dealership employee found the keys to the vehicle and walked with the woman to the truck, a Dodge Ram.
According to 7 News, that’s when the situation allegedly took a sinister turn, as the employee claimed Miller “grabbed him (the employee) from behind, choked him and demanded his keys.” The employee went on to claim that “Miller, 35, knocked him to the ground and then grabbed the keys and fled in the truck.” Fortunately for the dealership, the truck had a tracker inside, which made it easy to locate the vehicle. Miller was subsequently captured and arrested.
Arriving in court Wednesday, Miller was charged with “unarmed carjacking and robbery with assault.” 7 News reports that the prosecutor stated: “It appears that Mr. Miller knew what this company’s plan was to recover his car, apparently by any means.” At press time, Miller is being held in the Broward County Jail. The 35-year-old recently suffered his only defeat when he was stopped by Daniel Dubois in Saudi Arabia on December 23. All but four of Miller’s twenty-six victories came by knockout. Aside from the loss to Dubois, Miller fought Joey Dawejko to a draw in 2013.
Not long ago, Miller was considered world title material. In fact, he was set to fight Anthony Joshua in 2019. However, banned substances were found in Miller’s system and Joshua ended up fighting Andy Ruiz. Ruiz shocked the world by stopping Joshua that night (although Joshua handily won a rematch with Ruiz six months later). Miller has only fought four times since then. At this point it is impossible to discern whether the New Yorker will return to the ring or spend time in prison.
