Our number 2, who has been filling in at left back in recent weeks following injuries to Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, has been one of our standout players.

“All we can do is take it game by game. I know it’s a cliché, but there is desire and we have a platform to build on.

“We can’t take that for granted, as we know that last season wasn’t always easy and we went through difficult times, but we built from it and learned from it. So, we have to keep going like this and see where it takes us.”

Gomez is now Liverpool’s longest-serving player following the departure of Jordan Henderson in the summer.

The former Charlton player’s versatility has been vital since joining the club under Brendan Rodgers in 2015, playing in all positions of the back four.

As he currently plays the full-back role, the England international is further up the pitch, so it may only be a matter of time before he is on the scoresheet.

Let’s hope he can continue his excellent performances as we aim to correct many of last season’s mistakes!
