Subriel Matias Calls Out 140-Pound Elite, Declares Himself Top Dog

Subriel Matias posted on social media today, letting the 140-pound elite know that he is the top dog in the light welterweight division, the King.

Matias doesn’t think much of WBC 140-pound champion Devin Haney, labeling him a “chicken,” something some fans would agree with. A better label would be “calculated opportunist” because of the way Haney carefully picks his opposition, selecting George Kambosos Jr. over Shakur Stevenson at 135 and Regis Prograis over Matias at 140.

IBF light welterweight champion Matias (20-1, 20 KOs) went through the top fighters, letting fans know how little he thought of them and asking which of the fighters wanted to fight him. So far, none of them.

No chicken, no jokers, just Matías

Devin Haney Ryan García Teofimo López Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero

“The best 140 is here. Not Teofimo [Lopez]. He is a bastard. Without Ryan [Garcia]. Who is Ryan? Subriel Matías said on social networks, ensuring that he is the best fighter at light welterweight. No, Haney. Chicken. No roll [Romero]. He is a joker.

“So what happened? I’m here. Who wants to fight me?” said Matías.

Calling WBA light welterweight champion Rolly Romero a “joker” is a little funny, because that’s how many fans see him. He is now considered the worst champion at 140 after Regis Prograis was defeated.

The only fighter on that list who has mentioned Matias’ name is WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo, but he said last Saturday night that he tried to fight him, but he had a hand injury.

It’s questionable whether Teofimo lived up to that comment because he stopped facing risky opponents three years ago after his fight against Vasily Lomachenko.

Matias is coming off a fifth-round knockout victory over Shohjahon Ergashev. That was an impressive performance from Matias, who took down the previously undefeated Ergashev, punishing him with big blows until he tapped out.
