It has been a strange and limited year on the international stage for our young fans.
Politics prevented many talented stars from competing in major tournaments, but there were still many successes that we recognize here.
This award is named after Kevin Sheehy, a young star. The late Limerick heavyweight looked destined to have a long and successful career before he was taken from us.
In terms of the short list, there have been many medals and countless notable performances, but we can’t look beyond our FIVE international gold medalists for the nominations.

Ella Archbold (Ballybrack)The Dublin pinweight won four fights in Slovenia to claim European Schools gold despite being a year younger than most competitors.
John Donoghue (Olympian Mullingar)The light welterweight made national news when his case reached Joe Duffy and luckily he got the chance to face a Russian in the quarter-finals of the World Juniors in Armenia. A draw in the first round, followed by a victory over a two-time European champion in the semi-finals and a final victory over Uzbekistan, and Ireland have a new star.
Cassie Henderson (Phoenix Antrim)The Ulster light welterweight completely dominated at the European Schools in Slovenia, beating three opponents on his way to the top of the podium.
Louise Joyce (Olympian Mullingar)Joyce, another brilliant young wrestler from Johnny Joyce’s group, was even better this year at the European Schools Championships. After losing to England in a split final last year, Joyce took gold at 36kg in Slovenia with a unanimous victory over our nearest neighbour.
Siofra Lawless (Four Kings)The Wicklow wonder claimed Ireland’s second world junior light welter gold in Armenia, destroying their field. A stoppage in the semi-final followed by a one-sided final display against India saw her take first place AND win the Best Boxer of the Championship award.
