There’s nothing better than a fight between Irishmen.
Titles may or may not be on the line, but pride is always in these bouts that invariably capture the imagination.
There were eight all-Irish fights in the professional arena this year and they all deserve recognition and we have had the unenviable task of narrowing it down to just FIVE.
Also deserving a big honorable mention is the Irish amateur system, which delivers classics week after week. There have been some crackers this year, too many to mention, from Kelyn Cassidy against Gabriel Dossen and Gráinne Walsh against Amy Broadhurst in Elites to the epic Junior 2 final between Ava Henry and Kyla Doyle and more.

Emmet Brennan vs. Jamie MorrisseyPossibly the highlight of the Cameron-Taylor 2 card, Dubliner Brennan looked a million bucks early in this fight for the BUI Celtic light heavyweight title. However, it was not one-way traffic as the brave Limerick warrior came back strongly in the middle rounds only for Brennan to finish the fight in the final round.
Lewis Crocker vs. Tyrone McKennaIn the biggest Belfast derby in 40 years and a huge build-up, Sandy Row’s Crocker announced himself to the boxing world with a powerful performance, while the continued grit of Lenadoon’s McKenna offered the perfect send-off.
Gerard Hughes vs. Ryan FarrellIn a controversial six-round war that we will no doubt see again in 2024, Belfast’s youngsters fought to a stalemate on the Conlan-Gill card, but there has been much consternation surrounding the verdict.
Craig McCarthy vs. Graham McCormackThis Waterford War was a bitter fight, and McCarthy won a victory. There was drama before, during and after, with social media campaigns, phantom falls and bad blood in the bowels of the SETU Arena. Beef!
Jamie Morrissey vs. Kevin Cronin 2A rematch for the Irish title from their first meeting just weeks earlier, the fight in Galway followed a similar pattern with Morrissey starting strong before a counterattack from Cronin. In the end, it was also considered a tie, but the debate continues.
