The festive period marks the halfway point of the Premier League season and statistically the Reds have made valuable contributions in all departments, something that must continue.
Liverpool 2.0, as we all refer to this evolution of Jurgen Klopp’s team, has positioned itself well for the second half of the season, despite not always having played at its best level.
But we’ve seen the resurgence of Virgil van Dijk returning to his best, plus Alisson showing why he’s the best goalkeeper in the world, not to mention Mohamed Salah’s ridiculous scoring record.
And after 19 games, it’s the ideal time to pause and reflect on the first half of the campaign, and with the help of FotMob data we can see who the 10 best players are so far.
Statistically, no player has a rating of eight or higher (and that applies to the entire Premier League), but Salah is awfully close with a rating of 7.87. That makes him the first in Liverpool and the fourth in the entire division.
With 12 goals and seven assists in the league, there can be no surprise in that ranking and according to FotMob, Salah has created the most big chances in the league with 14.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, for his part, is not far behind. His rating of 7.78 is good enough for second place at Anfield and sixth in the league, well deserved with two goals and three assists.
The No. 66’s season has been intriguing with his reversed role and recent midfield movements during matches, and he is averaging 5.9 accurate long balls per 90, the second most in the Premier League.
Completing the top three is Van Dijk (7.54), who has taken on his role as captain with renewed confidence and swagger, the return of the traits that set him apart from the rest.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s start to the season (7.41) has been kindly reflected in the data, although at times he has looked fatigued, with his intensity and ability to create chances giving the midfield a new dynamic.
A nod to how much he grew during the season before breaking his collarbone, Kostas Tsimikas rounds out the top five (7.29) after a steady run at left back that saw him bounce back after a shaky start.
With five goals and five assists in the League, Darwin Núñez is close behind (7.27), but there is still much more to come from the Uruguayan if he manages to convert his chance ratio into goals.
Ibrahima Konate (7.2), Alexis Mac Allister (7.19), Joe Gomez (7.05), Joel Matip (6.97) and Alisson (6.97) occupy the last places.
Liverpool’s number one position on this list may surprise many considering his save percentage of 79.4 per cent, five per cent more than the next best in the Premier League.
The top 10, and even the names not in it, demonstrate the valuable contributions of Klopp’s team so far this season, and the importance of maintaining him if the Reds are to be successful.
