When Erik ten Hag took over at Old Trafford, he inherited a broken and holey team and not many would have given him and the team any chance of winning titles this season.
The first thing the Dutchman did was strengthen the backbone of the team and the additions of Lisandro Martínez and Casemiro have changed the face of the team.
Ten Hag has also focused on his preferred defensive partnership of Raphael Varane and Martinez, and the duo has been terrific most of the time.
New preferred CB partnership
The duo kept a clean sheet in the Carabao Cup final while beating the threat of Barcelona in the Europa League.
That has meant that the previous titular partnership of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire have found their opportunities hard to come by.
They have mainly played in cup competitions or if one of the preferred centre-backs has been injured or suspended.

There are rumors that the United manager wants to bring in more reinforcements at the back next summer and that could lead to at least one defensive exit.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Sevilla’s sports director, Monchi, wants to strengthen his team’s defense for next season and has drawn up a list of possible targets.
First on that list is Lindelof, as they are aware that the Swede has not played as many minutes as he would have liked and therefore would be open to a move. Sevilla already have United defender Alex Telles there on loan.

In England, they place Sevilla among those interested in another top-level center-back, whose contract ends the following year (2024) and which hardly counts in recent times.
