Marcus Adams visits, Bruins in top schools

4-star PG Marcus Adams Jr. paid an official visit to UCLA today. He has cut his final roster down to three, including Syracuse and Kansas, according to Adams’ Twitter.

Adams, one of the top 100 recruits according to some publications, recently paid an official visit to Kansas. Adams plays high school ball for him at Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California. Narbonne lost in the Los Angeles Sectional Open Championship and then in the Division 2 state tournament.

The adjustment

Adams would be a significant addition to the UCLA men’s basketball program.

Without any kind of 2024 commitments, Adams would add some future depth on the wing. After this season, there will likely be significant roster turnover for the Bruins. Forward Jaime Jaquez and forwards David Singelton and Amari Bailey are likely gone after this season.

Coach Mick Cronin is known for developing wing shooters, even dating back to his coaching days in Cincinnati. In addition to current players like Jaime Jacquez and Jaylen Clark, players like Jarron Cumberland, Sean Kilpatrick, Lance Stephenson, and Johnny Juzang took starring roles on their teams.

Behind his own commitment, Adams’ younger brother, Maximo, is creating his own recruiting enthusiasm. Freshman Maximo Adams has been receiving notable offers from Mississippi State, Oregon, Kansas State, Syracuse, Xavier, Texas and Kansas, among others.

Will Adams commit to UCLA?

With the remaining talent pool currently dwindling at UCLA, Marcus Adams will have a path to immediate playing time. However, UCLA has a trio of 4-star forwards coming to the program in its recruiting class of 2023.

A lot may change by the time Adams even decides on their engagement. First, she’ll probably make an official visit to Syracuse. Then, with a year to go and the uneven nature of recruiting, new schools could emerge as contenders for Adams’ talent.

For now, UCLA will be a good option for a player of his caliber.

Adams will be eligible to reclassify one year early. He will announce his engagement on March 7.
