Michael Owen believes Liverpool’s next five Premier League games will be critical in determining whether or not the Reds will finish the campaign in the top four.
Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Wolves 2-0 at Anfield last night to reduce the gap between them and fourth-placed Spurs to six points with one game remaining in Antonio Conte’s side.
We’ll host Manchester United on Sunday and then, after our league trip to Bournemouth and the Champions League clash with Real Madrid in Spain, we’ll take on Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal in quick succession in early April.
“If they’re no further than the top four after that series of games, then they will. I am convinced of it,” Owen told premierleague.com (via Rousing The Kop).
“I want to say that that is definitive, they could be out of the game after that. If they have a losing streak where they could be 10, 12 points adrift with eight games to go or something like that, it’s all over. If they’re still three, four, five points out of the top four after those games, then they’ll do it.”

We have some very tough games on the horizon, but we have been very successful against our four main rivals in recent seasons.
We understand that our performances so far this term have not lived up to the usual high standards we have previously set, but these are the sorts of matches Klopp’s team should be more involved in.
Having the chance to derail Manchester City and Arsenal’s title race while more misery can be heaped on Graham Potter and company should be motivation enough on its own, while we also need results if we are to achieve a top four finish.
There is hope that Luis Díaz will return to the team later this month, which means he could play a pivotal role for the club as we enter a vital part of our campaign.
